Rick Sheff, MD, serves as Chief Medical Officer for Chartis Clinical Quality Solutions. He brings more than 35 years of healthcare management and leadership experience to his work with physicians, hospitals, and healthcare systems across the country. With his distinctive combination of medical, healthcare, and management acumen, Rick develops solutions tailored to the unique needs of physicians, hospitals, and healthcare systems so those who work in healthcare can flourish while serving others.
Rick consults, authors, and presents on a wide range of healthcare management and leadership issues, including physician-hospital collaboration and alignment, service line performance optimization, and physician leadership performance optimization. His experience also includes conflict resolution and trust-building, physician employment and contracting, high reliability health care solutions, health care system integration, physician burnout, and helping physicians rediscover the joy of medicine.
Rick is a nationally renowned speaker and has authored or co-authored 17 books and numerous articles including: “The Greeley Guide to New Medical Staff Models: Solutions for Changing Physician-Hospital Relations,” “The Greeley Guide to Physician Employment and Contracting,” and “Emergency Department On-Call Strategies: Solutions for Physician-Hospital Alignment.”
Prior to joining the firm in 1999, Rick served as Vice President of Medical Affairs, President of an independent practice association, Medical Director of a physician-hospital organization, President of a corporation that owned and operated physician practices, and group practice Medical Director. He has taught at Tufts University School of Medicine and served as Chair of the Massachusetts Academy of Family Practice Research Committee.
Rick received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, completing his residency in family medicine at Brown University. He was an undergraduate at Cornell University and recipient of the Keasbey Scholarship for the study of politics and philosophy at Oxford University.
